Invisalign is a brand name for a type of "invisible" teeth straightening using transparent aligners. These custom-made trays fit like a thin shell over the teeth and apply targeted pressure to move them into the desired position over weeks and months. Unlike classic fixed braces, they can be removed for eating and brushing.
The process starts with an examination and a digital 3D scan of the teeth at the dentist or orthodontist. From this, an individual treatment plan is created and a series of aligners is manufactured. Each aligner is usually worn for around two weeks before moving on to the next. A high daily wear time (often about 22 hours) is essential, otherwise the result is delayed. Check-up appointments accompany the process.
The method makes sense for mild to moderate misalignments such as crowding, gaps or a slight overbite. For complex jaw or bite problems, fixed braces may be the better choice.
Pay attention to professional advice: not every case is suitable, and treatment belongs in experienced hands. Costs depend heavily on complexity, treatment duration and the practice, and are usually not covered by basic insurance. Ask for a transparent cost estimate in advance. A typical mistake is wearing the aligners too infrequently.
