CityHero

Methodology & editorial

How CityHero works.

CityHero ranks over 18,600 Swiss businesses by traceable rules and calculates prices from real price lists. This page summarises where the data comes from, how texts are produced and what we do not do.

Where the data comes from

Base data
Name, address, category and opening hours from publicly available sources, including OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0) and swisstopo address data, as well as details provided by the businesses themselves.
Ratings
Stars and review counts come from Google and are shown with attribution. We do not change them and do not currently collect our own reviews.
Prices
From the businesses’ price lists and menus, analysed according to the price methodology.
Requests
Number and timing of requests via CityHero feed into the Hero Score. We never publish the content of requests.

How texts are produced

Profile texts come from the business, from its website, or are assembled from the available data (category, town, opening hours, rating). We flag such assembled texts internally as templates: a profile is only indexed by search engines once it has its own text of at least 250 characters, a real photo and content such as a menu, price list or services.

Pages with figures (rankings, prices, price atlas) build every sentence from that page’s data. If a figure is missing, the sentence is dropped instead of being replaced by filler. We use software and AI tools to clean data, match items and phrase texts; the figures themselves are calculated from the database.

Independence and advertising

  • Ranks, podium and City Hero badge cannot be bought.
  • Ads sit above the ranking and are labelled “Sponsored”; at most three per town and category.
  • Businesses can claim their profile for free and maintain details, but cannot change ratings.
  • Requests are free for users.

Corrections

Please report errors in addresses, opening hours, prices or texts to hello@cityhero.ch, including the page address. We review every report and correct documented errors. Businesses can change their details themselves after claiming their profile.
