Eyelash extensions

With eyelash extensions, individual synthetic lashes or small fans are glued onto your own natural lashes with a special adhesive to add length, volume and curl. The result lasts several weeks depending on the growth cycle and needs no mascara.

For eyelash extensions the client lies with closed eyes while the lower lash line is taped down. The practitioner isolates individual natural lashes and attaches synthetic lashes made of PBT plastic. In the 1:1 method (Classic) one extension is placed on one natural lash; for a denser effect, volume or hybrid techniques use handmade fans of several ultra-fine lashes. Thickness, length and curl are matched to eye shape and natural lash so the weight doesn't overload your own lash.

A new set takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on technique. Since each natural lash has its own growth cycle and sheds after four to eight weeks, the set gradually thins. That's why a refill is done every two to three weeks, replacing lashes that have grown out. With proper care – no rubbing, oil-free cleansing, no plucking – the extensions stay even and the natural lashes healthy.

The treatment suits anyone wanting a bright, defined look without daily mascara, as well as holidays, events or contact-lens wearers. An experienced practitioner using high-quality, skin-friendly adhesive is important, as eye irritation or allergies can rarely occur. A professionally applied set does not damage the natural lashes as long as it is properly refilled and removed.

In Switzerland a Classic new set usually costs CHF 120 to 180, volume or mega-volume sets CHF 160 to 250 (no guarantee). Refills usually cost CHF 60 to 120 depending on interval and technique. Professional removal is often CHF 20 to 40.

Example

Before her wedding a bride has a hybrid set applied. In the photos her eyes look open and defined without mascara smudging – and because she gets a refill every three weeks on her honeymoon, the effect lasts well beyond the event.

Frequently asked

How long do eyelash extensions last?

A full set looks dense for about two to three weeks, then thins with natural lash growth. With refills every two to three weeks the look can be maintained indefinitely. Without refills most extensions have shed after four to six weeks.

Do eyelash extensions damage your own lashes?

Not when applied correctly, because only as much weight is chosen per natural lash as it can carry. Damage comes from lashes that are too heavy, rubbing or plucking them off yourself. Oil-based products near the eye dissolve the adhesive and should be avoided.

What is the difference between Classic and Volume?

Classic places one extension per natural lash – a more natural, defined look. Volume applies handmade fans of several ultra-fine lashes onto one natural lash, giving much more density and fullness. Hybrid mixes both techniques.
