Schweizerische Nationalbank SNB

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) is the central bank of Switzerland and is represented in St. Gallen at Neugasse 43. As a central bank, it fulfils a fundamentally different role from an ordinary commercial bank and is not geared towards traditional retail banking.

The tasks of a national bank usually include conducting monetary and currency policy in the country's interest, supplying the economy with cash, and safeguarding price and financial stability. The St. Gallen location is part of the regional presence of this nationwide institution.

For the public, the SNB is therefore less a point of contact for everyday banking than the central institution that sets the monetary policy framework within which banks and the economy operate in Switzerland.
