Kantonale Denkmalpflege

The Kantonale Denkmalpflege (cantonal heritage preservation office) is a public authority based in St. Gallen at St. Leonhard-Strasse 40. As a government office, it deals with the protection and preservation of buildings and monuments worthy of protection.

In renovation and remodelling work on historic building fabric, a heritage preservation office is an important point of contact. It supports projects with expertise, assesses planned interventions and helps ensure that characteristic substance, materials and details are preserved properly during refurbishments. In this way, safeguarding architectural heritage and putting a building to contemporary use can be reconciled.

For owners of protected properties in St. Gallen, the Kantonale Denkmalpflege is therefore the right address whenever a building project raises heritage questions and calls for professional assessment or guidance.
