The Building Construction Office of the Canton of Zürich plays a decisive role in the development, control, and realization of construction projects. It is responsible not only for the planning of new buildings but also for the upkeep and repair of the existing cantonal buildings. Each year, the Building Construction Office handles around 600 different projects, ranging from new buildings and comprehensive renovations through to art-and-construction projects. These projects are carried out with a high level of competence and care, whereby the framework conditions such as building culture, financial requirements, and legal provisions are always observed.

The responsibility of the Building Construction Office extends across the entire planning and construction process, from concept development through to handover to the future users. It ensures that close collaboration between the various parties involved is promoted. In doing so, the office relies on uniform standards in planning and implementation in order to ensure high building quality and sustainable use. Particular attention is paid to the integration of sustainable building principles such as the circular economy into all aspects of construction.

The management of the Building Construction Office has been in the hands of Beat Pahud since August 2021, who, together with around 160 employees, contributes to shaping the future of the canton. Through various initiatives, the Building Construction Office strives to preserve the cultural values and resources of the canton while at the same time modernizing the public infrastructure.
