The Department of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Psychosomatics at the University Hospital Zürich (USZ) offers specialized services for assessing and treating patients whose physical complaints are connected to psychological strain. The center focuses on the complex interactions between psychological and somatic illnesses. The department pursues a holistic approach by taking the bio-psycho-social dimension of patient care into account. In this way, both psychological strain arising from physical illness and physical symptoms resulting from psychological strain can be treated.

The department offers a comprehensive range of psychosomatic specialty consultations and therapy programs, particularly through its centers for eating disorders and stress-related disorders. The Center for Eating Disorders offers both outpatient and inpatient therapies. The Center for Stress-Related Disorders cares for patients suffering from the long-term consequences of extreme psychological strain or traumatic experiences. A crucial element in patient care is the close collaboration with other departments of the USZ, ensuring that psychiatric and psychosomatic services are seamlessly integrated into overall medical care.

Clinical basic and healthcare research holds high importance at the department. New findings are intended to continuously improve and adapt therapeutic approaches in order to best support patients with psychological and physical illnesses. The department is also committed to education, regularly offering training and continuing education opportunities to medical students at the University of Zürich as well as to specialist physicians.
