Öffentlicher Kühlschrank - Food Waste reduzieren

The project "Public Fridge - Reducing Food Waste" led by Madame Frigo represents an innovative solution for combating food waste in Switzerland. In Switzerland, around one third of all food ends up in the trash, with private households being among the biggest contributors. Madame Frigo wants to change this by offering the population the opportunity to use over 190 public fridges, in which surplus but still edible food can be placed. People who want to donate food simply bring it to a fridge near them and can at the same time take out food they need. This simple but effective measure not only promotes awareness of the problem of food waste but also the social community. In addition, various educational measures are implemented to raise awareness and to promote long-term solutions. Each year, with the help of about 700 volunteers, the fridges save around 900 tons of food from disposal. The concept is based on volunteer work and initiated interests and has proven to be extremely successful.
